Therapists

We had our developmental evaluation for Trevor yesterday.  Two therapists came in and sat on the floor with Trevor for about an hour playing a series of games/puzzles with him and asking me questions about his behavior.  They said that they determined his levels by the particular activity that he got stuck on.  For example, one of the activities was unscrewing a bottle and then figuring out a way to get the small contents out.  He really seemed to enjoy everything they had in their bags and was quite interactive with them. 

They were testing in every area and we will get a full written report in the mail, but the areas that I remember off hand were speech (expressive and comprehensive), social, self help, and motor skills.  There were definitely more, but a lot of them overlapped.  Not surprisingly, Trevor does show a mild delay in expressive conversation which we have had a clue because he is not using any words.  The therapists were very reassuring that everything was ok and gave me a list of home activities to encourage speech and told me to try not to anticipate his "needs" as much so that he has to find a way to ask for them.  In all other areas, Trevor was on target or scoring ahead at the 18 month range.  It's hard for me to not have things ready for my little guy, but I'm thinking and the therapists agreed that I might not be as on top of it after the new baby comes so Trevor will be forced to ask for things!

Hospital Visits

Well we had an interesting weekend.  We went to Charlotte to visit Alec's mom and brother.  Saturday night, I started to feel like my body temperature was fluctuating greatly and I was overly tired.  I finally took my temperature and found that I had a 103 temperature.  I took some extra strength tylenol and called my on call nurse to see if there was anything else that I should do.  After several questions, she said that she had to check with the MD and call me back.  About ten minutes later, I got a phone call back saying that I needed to go to the hospital to be checked out because the fever was high with a 35 week baby.  I told them the fever had gone down since the Tylenol had kicked in, but they said I still needed to go be checked out.  We had wanted to go back to Greensboro so we could go to Women's hospital, but Trevor was sleeping so soundly that we also didn't want to wake him.  We decided to try and get some rest and leave first thing in the morning to head to the hospital in Greensboro.  However after about 3 hours in bed, I started to worry myself thinking that I was neglecting the doctor's orders and hurting the baby so we headed into the Charlotte ER around midnight... which is quite an interesting place to be.  Luckily, we were admitted extremely fast and put into the ob department (away from scary gun shot victim's friends).  However, everything afterwards was kind of slow moving. They checked the baby, who was doing great.  I was showing signs of irritability (slight contractions) every 3 minutes, but after upping my intake of fluids, they improved.  After several other tests, they were not able to decipher where the fever was coming from, but ruled out several things.  So I was discharged at 5:30 am and told to come back if the fever rose.

We slept for a couple of hours until Trevor woke up and then packed up to come back to Greensboro Sunday morning.  We dropped off Trevor at my parents and both came home to crash.  After sleeping for several hours, my fever had gone back up to 103, so I called my doctor again and he said to go to Women's hospital to get it checked out again.  I was very reluctant since we had essentially done the same thing earlier that day.  We went to go check on Trevor and waited a few hours, but the fever hadn't improved so we decided to follow the instructions.

I was really impressed with Women's Hospital in Greensboro.  We were admitted very quickly and the nurses were all very kind.  It made us excited and more ready to have our little girl.  Alec kept asking, "do you think they can just go ahead and do the C section now?"  They did all of the same tests that were done in Charlotte and found the exact same information out.. nothing looked abnormal.  The doctor ordered an ultrasound to make sure the fever wasn't affecting the baby's fluid levels.  They said our baby passed with flying colors!  However, out of curiosity, I asked what the position of our baby was and she is breech with her feet right up by her head.  That explains why I feel like she is in one big ball on my upper right hand side.  The ultrasound tech said that generally babies are usually set in their position by 35 weeks, so we'll see what the doctor says... I'm still scheduled for another ultrasound Oct. 12th to check the position.

So after the tests came back, the doctor said I could go home, but to follow up with the OB practice early this week. We felt like the doctor's were being a little extra precautious, but I guess it is always better safe than sorry.  Hopefully it's just a quick virus that I will be over in no time.  And if nothing else, we feel a little more familiar with Women's Hospital and excited about going there to have our baby! 

In other news... Trevor had a good weekend visiting with both Grandmothers and Grandfather.  He was FINE being left alone with them unlike in some recent visits:).  This made us very happy and relieved!

Sprinkle Time!

Thanks to some amazing friends, baby girl (who's name is still yet to be determined) was showered this past weekend.  She is so lucky to be entering into this world with a lot of friends already.  If she's like her mommy, these are sure to be her best friends for a VERY long time.

We first had some mommy only/Girl time at Print Works with a delicious brunch, lovely girly gifts, and no screaming babies:).

Baby G received many adorable outfits, burp cloths, and swaddles, but I just wanted to include this picture of the special paci holders since we all know how attached Trevor has been to his paci...  Just hoping Trevor doesn't find these before baby girl.  I am sure there will be some battles over pink items hanging from Trevor's mouth once the baby does arrive.

Zoos and Parks

First of all, I can't wait to post some pics from baby girl's sprinkle Saturday morning and the play date, but I didn't take any with my camera so I will have to wait and will do another post in tribute to such a fun and memorable morning asap!  But here is what went on the rest of the weekend!

Saturday after nap... Alec and I decided to try out the Burlington City Park...Trevor was a little too young to fully enjoy this park, but it has great potential for next Spring/Summer.  There were a few things of interest to Trevor, we just didn't need to buy the ride pass booklet at this age:).

Then came the carousel...  Trevor seemed to be content with this ride, not overly happy, just fine...;)

Of course, the simple things... tower of sand with big kids seemed to catch Trevor's attention the most..

This was the only ride we attempted to let Trevor ride on by himself and it ended about 25 seconds after this picture was snapped.  Trevor realized that he could turn around in his seat to break out of the seat belt and was trying to jump from the boat into the water.

 As for Sunday....

Our NC acquarium pass has got to be one of the best purchases we have made.  It was $60 for a family for a year and allows us free access to any NC acquarium, the Greensboro Natural Science Center, the Asheboro Zoo, and half off admission to several out nation wide parks.  We actually used it to get half off admission for everyone at the Portland Zoo a few weeks ago. 

So Sunday we decided to make a trip to the Asheboro Zoo and here are a few pics....

I was very impressed with the zoo.  Trevor doesn't seem too interested in the animal viewing from afar, but loves to speed down the paths and there are sure a LOT of walking paths. 

LAZY

I haven't been super busy, just kind of uninteresting...  Here is what's new....After 5+ years of being together, Alec finally got the privilege of cleaning my teeth:).  Obviously the hygienists typically clean the teeth, but I thought it would be more fun spending time with Alec than the hygienist. Hmm, fun isn't actually the word that should be used there, maybe more "bearable" would be better.  However, it took forever since he worked me in and seemed to prioritize his other "paying" patients, how unfair:).  The best part was leaving together to go pick up our little man from school.  Trevor gets so excited to see his daddy by the school door.

Speaking of school, I LOVE Trevor's teachers.  Among other amazing talents, somehow they have managed to change Trevor's diapers without using baby einstein You Tube clips on their i phones and they are so easy going about using the cloth diapers.  Trevor is still doing the drop off tears, but today I got a picture text about 30 minutes later as an FYI that he had stopped crying before I even left the building.

Onto more exciting news, several high school friends are coming into town tomorrow and we are having two big play dates.  Can't wait to take lots of pics of all the babies together and of course see all of their mamas!

And soon, like hopefully as of tomorrow, the nursery will be 95% finished!  We had a few delays due to my inability to decide on certain fabrics.  I say 95% because I'm sending some materials back with Alyson this weekend to finish some wall art so we won't get that until later.  But, mom and I are going to try to finish up some things later tonight.  It's a nice feeling to sort of "nest" this time around unlike with Trevor (because of our move right after his birth).  I  was very productive at the church consignment sales aka bought a LOT of clothes.  I was actually able to start organizing baby girl's clothes between Winter, Spring, and Summer.

15 months old and Ready for School!

Trevor is 15 months old (well add a week or two:))

Weight- 24.5lbs  (75%)

Height- 31 3/4 inches  (75%)

We went in for Trevor's scheduled 15 month appointment and found out that Trevor not only has a bad cold, but also his first ear infection.  I had no idea.  I knew that he had a bad cold, but he's been sleeping pretty well and not being alarmingly fussy.  I asked the doctor if I should keep him home from school and he said unless he has a fever, send him on and that I should expect those same colds all year long.  The doctor was also happy that Trevor is enrolled in school so that maybe he can become more interested in SPEAKING!:) Our little boy is still just babbling and communicating with us mostly nonverbally.  We are meeting with a developmental specialist in a few weeks.  Can't wait to hear what they say!

I love how close we live to Church and school.  I video taped most of the walk on our real video camera, but got this little clip on my phone...

Trevor is still excited at this point.. it's not until we enter his classroom that the break down occurs.  While it temporarily breaks my heart, if I hide behind the door for just a couple of minutes, I can see him regain his composure and get to playing!  Much to my surprise, the teachers haven't had to call yet for me to come pick him up early!

Portland and Washington State

We spent Labor Day weekend visiting Aunt Dixie and Uncle Patrick.  It was nice to get some one on one time with them in a non holiday/busy setting.  They have two HUGE newfoundlands (weigh over 120lbs)  Trevor Loved them!  He would become a little scared when they started to lick on him, but then almost immediately after we "rescued" him, he would go back towards them to tease them more.

I had known planning the trip that not buying an extra seat for Trevor could be difficult, but I had not realized just how long our flights were with connections and the effects of a 3 hour time difference on a child that lives by a pretty set schedule these days.  So.... Trevor woke up at the appropriate NC times (6:30-8:30am) which unfortunately was only (3:30-5:30am) West coast time.  And with waking up so early, he was ready for bedtime around 4:00pm.  This extremely limited the amount of activities we could do during the day. While we did stretch his bed time to adjust to our touring schedule a little bit, I hated to try and "adjust" him too much because I love our NC schedule.  Regardless, we were able to get in a lot of family time with great home cooked meals.
